Originally published by a Rochester church group in 1891, The Flower City Cookbook is a reconstituted cookbook, not a photocopy of the original. As part of our READ (Restoring Early American Documents) program, Laughing Cat Books has taken down to its bare text and reset it in 13 point bold print so it is easy to read. In addition, we have added a glossary for words and terms that are no longer used. Lastly we have included real pictures and advertisements from Rochester in 1880 showing what life was like.

There was a time, not so long ago, when the Genesee Valley of New York State was the western frontier of America. This book, originally published in 1905 by Miss Mumford, is a collection of recipes from the 19th century.

In September, 1989, a new television station took to the airwaves in Rochester, New York. It was WGRC-TV and it broadcasted on cable channel 5.
It was a unique venture in that it was the first time that a cable operator, who charged subscribers a monthly fee, launched a station to challenge local stations.
Initially, WGRC carried sports programs and such classics as reruns of “Hunter,” “Bewitched,” “Alf,” “Smurfs,” “Perfect Strangers,” in addition to local news beginning on April 22, 1990. A few years later the station went all news and changed its name to R News. We now know it as Time Warner Channel 9 YNN.
